SESSION

Craniosacral Session

Each session begins with a verbal check-in to help us hone in on your main concerns and intentions for your visit.  Then I invite you to remove your shoes and lie comfortably on your back on a massage table table, fully clothed, with a blanket if desired, and a pillow to support your knees; wear clothes you feel comfortable lying down in.  The session then proceeds with a sequence of gentle hands-on assessments and release techniques, sometimes accompanied by conversation about what you are experiencing, in order to aid in bringing your conscious mind into the healing process.  The whole process is intended to be led by your own internal wisdom, as expressed physically and/or verbally, as well as consciously and/or subconsciously.  As a therapist, my role is to be of help in facilitating the healing and expansive potential within you.  You can come in with specific concerns or intentions--of a physical, emotional, mental, or spiritual nature; or you can just come with a general idea of something that is challenging to you or that you would like to cultivate--for example, difficulty getting motivated or desire for general relaxation.  Or you can just come in with no idea and an open mind!

60 Min - $120 / 90 Min - $150 (Venmo, Paypal, Zelle, Cash, or Check)

ABOUT

My interest in craniosacral therapy began when I became a client myself in 2014.  I fell in love with the modality and its benefits.  Over the years, I have tried out many types of therapy, all of which have been extremely helpful in their own way.  Some of these therapy modalities were primarily talk and mental processing based--like psychotherapy; some were more physically based--like massage, reflexology, watsu; and others were more energetic based--like reiki and acupuncture.

Craniosacral therapy incorporates elements of each of these types of therapies in its approach--treating body, mind, spirit, and emotional body as one.  For me, craniosacral therapy felt like a magical shortcut to changing and releasing age-old patterns I was ready to shift--things I had a pretty good understanding of through other therapies but that were still affecting me in some form.  So a few years later, in 2017, when my therapist, Heather Islander, said she was offering a year and a half certification course, I signed up, enthusiastic about learning how to share this experience with others with whom it

might resonate. I have been practicing since Fall of 2017 and completed my certification in March of 2019.  My goal as a craniosacral therapist is to provide a safe, grounded, healing space for my client's true nature to find its path to expansion and healing. I have also worked as a computer programmer, but my focus now is on craniosacral therapy and yoga instruction.  My hobbies include singing, flute playing, meditation, yoga, walks in nature, reading, and enjoying quality time with friends and family.

What is craniosacral therapy?

Integrated Craniosacral Therapy, or ICST, helps to relieve tension patterns stored in the body, mind, and spirit.  With a gentle pressure of about 5 grams, my hands follow the natural movement of your bones and fascia and sometimes suggest a direction of release in order to relieve restrictions within specific structures of the body and the central nervous system.

How does it work?

Craniosacral refers to the cranium at the top of the spine and the sacrum located at the base of the spine. The spinal cord is encased in a series of membranes to which the bones attach. Cerebrospinal fluid circulates within this system creating a pulse-like rhythm that is tracked by the therapist who monitors this rhythm to pinpoint the source of an obstruction or stress. Once a source has been located, the therapist assists the natural movement of the fluid and related soft tissue to help the body self-correct.  Although as a therapist, I may sometimes tune in to energy and/or intuition, craniosacral therapy is strongly based in physical sensing through my hands of rhythms and patterns in the client's body.  This principle keeps the therapy grounded, safe, and neutral.

What can it do for me?

Craniosacral therapy can address a wide variety of intentions and concerns--physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual in nature.  You can approach the therapy from whichever perspective is most comfortable for you.  For example, you can come in with a sore shoulder you would like to find ease with, a difficult relationship issue, a feeling of boredom in life, a desire for relaxation, a pattern of obsessive thoughts, chronic back pain, etc.  Many times, concerns or intentions in these different arenas turn out to be related and attention to one will bring relief to all.  Listed here are some further examples just to get your imagination going.  In short, though, anything your are experiencing in your life, or anything you would like to experience in your life, is something that you can bring as a subject for craniosacral therapy.  Or you can just come in with an open mind and we can go from there to see how the therapy can work for you.
